Estonians flock to covid vaccine side-effect compensation

./block

Estonia has launched a programme for compensating possible serious side-effects from a Covid-19 vaccine. Since opening applications on May 1, 241 person has applied, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports.

The Estonian Health Insurance Fund administers the applications accepted in the Estonian Patient Portal. The compensation payments can be made to people who were vaccinated after December 2020. Other requirements are being affected for at least four months after they got their Covid-19 vaccine and it must have been confirmed by a doctor.

In 2022, one million euros has been set aside for payments of unspecified sums of payments.

Later, from next year, Estonia plans to extend the programme to other vaccines, including influenza, tick-borne encephalitis and vaccinations needed for traveling abroad, ERR reports.
